Native Totems - Wild Women Totem by Aubrey Johnson C2007
Based on an old Totem that used to stand in the village of Alert Bay, the artist has done a model pole measuring 75 inches in height by 12 inches deep by 30 inches wide ( wing span ). This pole is fully carved with every attention to detail from all the feathers on the body of the Eagle to the woven cedar bark rope on the fisherman. this is one of the most well done Totem's you will find on the market.
Dzunuk’wa wild women of the woods guards and protects her children, who are all creatures and spirits of the forest. Human children who wander are likely to be captured by her and thrown into the basket on her back, especially if they are stupid enough to eat the food with which she tempts them. As a spirit connected with wealth and coppers in particular, Dzunuk’wa’s image may be worn by a Kwakwaka’wakw chief at Copper breaking and potlatch closing ceremonies. On these occasions, the mask is called Geekumhl, and may be endowed with a masculine, warrior like nature.
The Sea Lion according to the Kwakwaka'waka people functions as house post and holes the prestigious position of head guards at the house of the Komokwa, chief of the undersea world he is the keeper of the Copper.
